UC Davis NOTE:
SPECIAL ADVISING NOTE:
TRANSFER STUDENTS SHOULD TAKE THE PLACEMENT EXAMINATION AND CONSULT WITH DEPARTMENTAL MAJOR ADVISERS BEFORE ENROLLING IN ANY MUSIC COURSE AT UC DAVIS.
CSU Fresno NOTE: 09/01/80
All students majoring in music are automatically enrolled in the Music as a Liberal Art Option until they have been officially admitted to another music degree option. All entering students (freshmen and transfer) must take a diagnostic examination in music history/literature and music theory. Other music degree options have audition or other admission requirements which must be fulfilled before a student is officially recognized as enrolled in that option. Undergraduate music majors select one of the following options: Music as a Liberal Art Option; Instrumental Performance Option; Vocal Performance Option; Composition Option; or Music Education Option: Choral/Vocal Music Education Emphasis, or General Music Education Emphasis, or Instrumental Music Education Emphasis. At the close of their first year at Fresno State, students must pass the Jury I examination in their declared area of concentration (instrument or voice) before being permitted to continue the major. Students in composition must pass an equivalent preliminary jury designed by their composition instructor. The Jury II examination must be passed for advanced standing. Students majoring in music must enroll in a piano class until the departmental piano proficiency examination has been passed.
