K-12 Enrollment Petition

Porterville College is a two-year community college. We have had, for several years, an open agreement with local high schools in which we enroll 11th and 12th graders in college classes. We have been and continue to be very restrictive in enrolling students who have attained less than the 11th grade level.

The Community College educational environment is geared toward adult students. This is true in both lecture/discussion classes as well as skills/performance classes. Lecture/discussion courses are not always appropriate for younger students due to nature of topics discussed and the language that may be used.

A maximum of six (6) credits per semester may be taken. However, we realize that academically advanced students younger than college level may wish to take advanced level courses. We allow enrollment of such students based on criteria we impose. Students wishing to take more than six (6) credits will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

We will try to serve high school students in the following areas:

In order for high school age students to enroll in the above areas, the following is required:

Students must complete the petition on the reverse side of this form. This petition must contain the parent's and school counselor's signature indicating approval for enrolling in classes at the college. In addition, the student must present a copy of his/her most recent report card or transcript in order to verify appropriate placement. Students must complete the appropriate Porterville College application and registration forms and may be required to complete the Porterville College placement exam.

Students must pay the appropriate Porterville College fees, which include mandatory enrollment fees, and mandatory health fees. A mandatory parking/security fee is required of all students who park their vehicle on campus. In addition, select courses have mandatory materials fees. All fees are to be paid at the time of registration.
