The LISTO (Liberal and Integral Studies for Transfer Opportunity) Program is a new federally-funded Program, which will be implementing learning communities at Porterville College over the next five years. While the program has been active at the College of Sequoias in Visalia for some time, Fall 2005 will mark the beginning at Porterville College.
The program is dedicated to academic achievement to facilitate transferring successfully to a four-year university. LISTO is a word that means "ready" in Spanish - a fitting acronym to represent the goals of the program.
LISTO targets students who may need assistance transitioning to post-secondary education. Participating in LISTO involves enrolling in recommended Linked Courses, participating in on-campus activities, and off-campus field trips and campus visits. We also offer a variety of services within our program including: computer access, Study Groups for English and Math, additional tutoring time, and extended counseling services.
LISTO students are part of a community, they become part of a powerful peer network, part of a team where they feel connected, cared about, and part of the PC family.
