Porterville College Probation and Disqualification Student Guide 2007-2008

  1. Students in Academic Probation 1:
    1. Meet with a counselor no later than the end of the first week of the semester to develop a Student Success Contract (SSC).
    2. Attend a Probation Workshop after completing a SSC with a counselor and bring a copy to the workshop to obtain a Probation/Disqualification Re-Instatement form signed by the counselor.
    3. Take EDUC 101 (if not taken).
    4. Continue to meet with a counselor as recommended and follow your SSC.
    5. Registration for the subsequent semester will be blocked until a counselor approves next semester schedule and signs the Probation/Disqualification Re-Instatement.
  2. Students in Academic Probation 2:
    1. Are RESTRICTED to a maximum of 12 UNITS.
    2. Meet with a counselor no later than the end of the first week of the semester to review the previous SSC and develop a new SSC.
    3. Meet with a counselor at least three times during the semester.
      1. 1st meeting – Develop a SSC and check on academic status.
      2. 2nd meeting – Check Academic Progress (progress report due)/Complete an Ed Plan.
      3. 3rd meeting – Plan for the following semester.
    4. Registration for the subsequent semester will be blocked until a counselor approves next semester schedule and signs the Probation/Disqualification Re-Instatement.
  3. Students in Disqualified Status:
    1. Meet with a counselor no later than the end of the first week of the semester to fill out and submit a PETITION FOR RE-ADMISSION and develop a new SSC. The disqualification committee will review petition to arrive at a decision and the student will be notified by telephone. If no contact is made, the student will be notified by mail.
    2. Petitions for Re-admission need to be submitted no later than the first week of class.
    3. If readmission is approved, then the student:
      1. Is Restricted to 7 units
      2. Must take EDUC 107 (included in 7 unit limitation)
      3. Meet regularly with a counselor to discuss academic progress, plan for subsequent semesters, and get approval for any change in class schedule.
      4. Turn in a progress report on November 1, 2007 for fall 2007 to Pauline Flowers or Mary Anastasoff in AC-126. If a student receives a “D” or an “F” progress grade, the student must meet with a counselor immediately. Also, your instructors may choose to use the Early Alert option on bannerweb.
    4. Registration for the subsequent semester will be blocked until grades are posted, a counselor approves next semester schedule and signs the Probation/Disqualification Re-Instatement or a new Petition for Re-Admission is submitted as required based on student academic standing.
  4. Students in Academic Continuance - (Last semester the student made progress, but he/she is still in probation.)
    1. Meet with counselor within the first three weeks of the semester to review the Student Success Contract and make changes as needed.
    2. Registration for the subsequent semester will be blocked until a counselor approves next semester schedule.
